Overview
The Rapala 227863 is a mechanical hang scale for weighing fish, built from blended materials and weighing 13.76 ounces on its own. It ships as a single unit with no accessories called out in the listing.
Spring scales like this trade batteries for simplicity: hook a fish to the dial, let it settle, and read the weight off the face. Rapala has sold hang scales in this line for years, and the 227863 keeps that mechanical format rather than switching to digital.
- Blended material housing
- 13.76 ounce scale weight
- Sold as a single unit
- Rapala brand
Who it's for
Suited to anglers who want a lightweight, battery-free way to weigh a catch boatside or streamside. Not the choice for anyone who specifically wants a digital scale with a memory function or tare button, since none of those features appear in the listing.
Pros and cons
- Battery-free spring mechanism
- Lightweight at under a pound
- Single compact unit
- Maximum weight capacity not listed
- No digital readout for precise numbers
Performance notes
Being a spring mechanism, the scale's accuracy comes from its internal calibration rather than electronics, so it should keep working in wet conditions where a digital unit might struggle, though the listing does not state a maximum weight capacity.
