Overview
A submerged pump pulls water through a coarse sponge, a dual-sided carbon cartridge and a bioholster for beneficial bacteria. Suction cups hold it in a frameless tank, and hanging clips grip the rim of a framed one.
Three stage filtration in a filter this small suits betta bowls and desktop tanks that lack room for a hang-on unit. Flow rate is missing, and cartridge refills are a size specific purchase.
Who it's for
Small freshwater setups, from betta tanks to shrimp cubes, get mechanical, chemical and biological filtration in one unit. Marine tanks and community aquariums need something larger.
Pros and cons
- Mounts in framed or frameless tanks
- Restarts after power outages
- Carbon cartridge included
- Sponge and bioholster add filtration
- Flow rate not listed
- Freshwater only listed
- Needs extra small Aqueon cartridges
Performance notes
Water passes the coarse sponge first for debris, then the carbon side of the cartridge for odor and discoloration, while the bioholster gives bacteria a surface to grow on. The auto start pump resumes after a power cut, so filtration does not quietly stop.
