Overview
Mid-size cruising boats are the setting for this vertical windlass, which has a polymer chain wheel that allows the chain to settle in for jump-free, quieter running. The listing calls it lighter and more efficient than earlier designs.
The reason to buy is a powerful, compact motor with a stated maximum pull and a protective cover, from a known marine maker. The limit is that this is a gypsy-only retail kit, with no switch, rope or hole template described.
Who it's for
Cruisers with a boat within the stated length who use the specified chain size. Owners of larger boats, or those with a different chain or rope setup, need a different windlass.
Pros and cons
- Stated high maximum pull
- Polymer chain wheel
- Lighter vertical design
- Chain only, no rope listed
- Control switch not described
- Deck cutout size not given
Performance notes
The polymer wheel lets the chain bed in, which cuts jumping and noise, and the motor power sets the pull available at the anchor. Real hauling capacity depends on the boat's weight, the chain length out and the electrical supply behind the motor.
