Overview
This Drasry trap is a 60 by 30 cm minnow style bait trap built from polyethylene mesh with a 1 cm opening, weighing about 0.65 kilograms. It is sized to be set and left in water to catch live bait rather than cast or retrieved.
The 1 cm mesh size is fine enough to hold small baitfish, crawfish or similar catch without them slipping through, while polyethylene resists the corrosion metal traps can suffer in water. At roughly 60 by 30 cm it is a mid sized trap, larger than pocket sized bait catchers but not a commercial scale unit.
- 60 x 30 cm trap size
- 1 cm mesh opening
- Polyethylene mesh material
- 0.65 kg (about 1.4 lb) weight
Who it's for
Anglers who catch their own live bait rather than buying it, particularly baitfish or crawfish. Not useful to anglers who only fish artificial lures or purchased bait.
Pros and cons
- 1 cm mesh holds small baitfish and crawfish
- Polyethylene resists rust in water
- Lightweight at 0.65 kg
- No data on catch rate or bait entry design
Performance notes
A 1 cm mesh is fine enough to retain small baitfish and similar catch while still letting water flow through, which is what lets the trap sit passively rather than needing to be worked. Polyethylene construction keeps it lightweight at 0.65 kg and avoids the rust that metal wire traps can develop over repeated use in water.
