Overview
Not a backpacking shelter, the CORE Instant Cabin is a large family tent meant to be carried from the car. Poles come attached, so it unfolds and locks into shape, and LED lights built into the ceiling pole run from a wall switch.
Fast pitching and lights already in the frame cut the usual campsite chores for a family. Dividers turn the floor into separate rooms. The weight and pack length rule it out for anything but drive up sites, and how the LEDs are powered is not explained.
Who it's for
Families and groups at campgrounds with parking next to the site will use the room and the quick setup. Backpackers and anyone walking to a site should look at a lighter tent.
Pros and cons
- Pre-attached poles speed up pitching
- Ceiling LEDs with switch control
- Room dividers add privacy
- Fully taped rainfly and sealed seams
- Heavy to carry from the car
- LED power source not listed
- Bulky pack needs trunk space
Performance notes
Pitching speed comes from the pre-attached pole hubs that lock into place, and stability in wind relies on staking out the guylines. Rain protection depends on the coated fabric and taped rainfly, while lower vents and the mesh ceiling move warm air out.
