Overview
An in ceiling satellite speaker from Monoprice, model 133833, built around a 3 inch driver with binding post connections. It is finished in black and weighs just under 11 pounds.
Monoprice built the 133833 as an in ceiling satellite, pairing a compact 3 inch driver with binding post terminals rather than a spring clip, which generally makes for a more secure wire connection over time.
- 3 inch driver
- Binding post connectivity
- In ceiling mounting
- Black finish, 10.95 lb
Who it's for
Suits a multi room or surround setup where speakers need to disappear into the ceiling rather than sit on shelves. Not the choice for anyone wanting a bookshelf or floor standing speaker, since this is built strictly for a ceiling cutout.
Pros and cons
- Binding post terminals for a secure wire connection
- Built specifically for in ceiling mounting
- Under 11 lb for easier ceiling installation
- Small 3 inch driver limits it to mid and high frequencies
Performance notes
A 3 inch driver is built for mid and high frequency coverage in a multi speaker layout, typically paired with a separate subwoofer for low end, rather than carrying full range sound on its own. Binding posts also tend to hold a connection more firmly than spring clips do once a ceiling panel is closed up around the wiring.
