Overview
Playing CDs, burned music discs, radio and streaming services, this compact Marantz receiver drives a pair of passive speakers from one box. Voice control works through Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri, and HEOS adds multi-room playback.
One small unit replaces a CD player, tuner, amplifier and streamer on a shelf. Video discs are not part of its job, and you supply the speakers.
Who it's for
Listeners with shelves of CDs who want streaming and radio in the same compact unit are the target. Movie watchers needing disc video playback should look at a DVD or Blu-ray player.
Pros and cons
- Plays burned MP3 and WMA discs
- Built-in amplifier for passive speakers
- Streams over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and AirPlay
- Optical inputs for a TV or set-top box
- No video disc playback
- Speakers sold separately
- No HDMI listed
- Modest power for large speakers
Performance notes
Sound output is governed by the digital amplifier, which can drive one speaker pair harder or split power across two pairs. Optical inputs carry digital audio from a TV or set-top box straight to the amplifier. Streaming quality depends on the source service and your network.
