Overview
Owners of both tape and disc collections get one Samsung deck that plays VHS, DVD and CD and sends an up-converted picture over HDMI. It has no tuner, so it serves as a player connected to an HD television, projector or monitor.
HDMI up-conversion gives DVDs a cleaner picture on an HD set while the tape deck covers older home videos. Listing details are thin, so recording ability and included accessories are unclear.
Who it's for
Families keeping VHS home videos next to a DVD shelf who want one player on an HD screen. People who need recording details confirmed or Blu-ray playback should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Plays VHS, DVD and CD
- HDMI up-conversion for DVDs
- Works with TV, projector or monitor
- Plays MP3, WMA and JPEG files
- No built in tuner
- Recording features not listed
- Remote and cables not listed
- Warranty not listed
Performance notes
DVD sharpness on an HD screen depends on the up-conversion over HDMI, which scales the disc's picture to the display. VHS playback is still limited by tape quality, so up-conversion cannot add detail the tape never held.
