Overview
A 5X monofilament fly leader in light olive, sold as a single unit under the Scientific listing name. The 5X rating puts it in a lighter tippet class typically used for smaller flies and line-shy fish.
5X leaders balance turnover with a fine diameter, a common choice for dry fly and light nymph work where a heavier leader could spook fish or drag the drift. The material is listed as natural, pointing to a standard nylon build rather than fluorocarbon.
- 5X line weight rating
- Monofilament construction
- Light olive color
- 1 count per pack
Who it's for
Fly anglers fishing light-tippet situations, such as spring creek trout, who need a 5X leader on hand. Not suited to anglers targeting larger fish that call for heavier tippet classes.
Pros and cons
- 5X rating suits light tippet presentations
- Light olive color blends with typical stream water
- Monofilament rather than fluorocarbon, less abrasion resistant
- Only one leader per pack
Performance notes
As a monofilament rather than fluorocarbon leader, it floats higher and stretches more, which suits dry fly presentations better than deep nymphing, where fluorocarbon's density and abrasion resistance are usually preferred.
