Overview

At 17.5 by 18.3 by 19.8 inches, this hOmeLabs unit packs 1.1 cubic feet of freezer space into a box that fits on a table or under a desk. A seven position knob sets temperatures between -4F and 6.8F, and the stainless door reverses to swing from either side.

A cylindrical keyed lock with two keys is the feature that separates it from most dorm size freezers, aimed at storing medication, breast milk or anything that should not be casually opened. Inside is a removable slide out wire shelf in white. The R600a compressor is rated below 42 decibels and about 240 kWh per year, which the maker puts near 29 dollars of electricity.

Who it's for

A fit for a dorm, office, nursery or truck cab where a full freezer is out of the question and the main kitchen freezer is already full. It is a supplement, not a primary appliance, and there is no refrigerator compartment at all.

Performance notes

Setting 4 is the recommended starting point, left for 24 hours before fine tuning toward 7 for colder. The single wire shelf splits the cabinet unevenly, and owners get more out of it by adding small wire baskets to stack packages vertically. Manual defrost applies, and the thermostat knob sits low on the cabinet rather than at the top. Like any compressor appliance it should stand upright for a full day after delivery before being plugged in.
