Overview
A stainless steel head on an aluminum shaft is the working core of this Raven, with a grip added at the base. The blade edge is serrated, and the head type is listed as ice.
A recognizable alpine brand and a grip-equipped model are the reasons to consider it for mountaineering. The listing gives little detail, with a generic brand paragraph and spec fields that do not fully agree.
Who it's for
Alpine travelers who want a Black Diamond axe with a gripped base get a straightforward tool. Technical ice climbers, and anyone who needs certified ratings or a lighter head, should check the maker documentation.
Pros and cons
- Stainless steel blade
- Grip included in this model
- Serrated blade edge
- Black Diamond build
- Strength rating not listed
- Head weight figure looks inconsistent
- Uses and certification unspecified
Performance notes
Head mass and blade profile decide how the axe bites and how stable it feels on a swing, and the serrated edge is listed as the blade type. An aluminum shaft holds the overall weight down on long approaches.
