Overview
Building a contemporary gas fireplace into a living room wall starts with this Superior unit, which uses a clean-face tempered glass front and a black painted interior. A powerful burner makes tall flames over crushed glass.
A clean built-in look with a remote that sets flame height is the reason to look at it, and an intermittent pilot with battery backup continues operation through a power cut. The limitation is install planning, since accessories are sold separately and the listed weight is suspect.
Who it's for
Builders and remodelers framing a contemporary wall for a direct vent unit will find the remote and glass media included. Buyers who want vent-free operation or a gas type other than natural gas should look at a different model.
Pros and cons
- Direct vent design
- Flame height control
- Crushed glass media
- Battery backup on the pilot
- Natural gas only listed
- Optional accessories sold separately
- Listed item weight looks unusually high
Performance notes
An electronic intermittent pilot lights the burner on demand, and battery backup lets the unit start during a power outage. The burner produces tall flames over the crushed glass bed, and the tempered glass front is designed for heat transfer and safety. Flame height is set from the remote.
