Overview
The Clear AFL-05 is a nylon monofilament fishing line rated at 40 pounds, spooled to 220 yards (660 feet) with a 0.45mm diameter. It suits anglers who want a clear, heavier test mono for leader material or general line replacement.
At 40 pound test with a 0.45mm diameter, this sits toward the heavier end of monofilament, better suited to leader duty or larger fish than light finesse presentations. Monofilament stretches more than braid or fluorocarbon, which affects hookset speed and sensitivity, a tradeoff anglers weigh depending on technique. The listed length checks out at 220 yards to 660 feet, so the spool amount is straightforward.
- Nylon monofilament line
- 40 pound line weight
- 220 yards (660 feet) per spool
- 0.45mm diameter, clear color
Who it's for
Anglers who want a clear, heavier test mono for leader material, or anyone spooling a reel for larger freshwater or light saltwater species. Less suited to those who specifically want fluorocarbon or braided line.
Pros and cons
- 220 yard (660 foot) spool length
- 40 pound test suits larger fish or leader use
- Clear color for low visibility
- Monofilament stretch reduces sensitivity versus braid
- Not fluorocarbon, so underwater visibility is higher than fluoro
Performance notes
Monofilament like this stretches under load, which absorbs some shock on a hookset but reduces direct feel compared to braid or fluorocarbon. At 40 pound test and 0.45mm, it carries enough strength for larger fish while staying clear rather than colored.
