Overview
The Ruffwear Float Coat is a dog life jacket, not a car seat despite how this listing is filed, built with a lift handle and reflective trim for swimming and boating. This Large size in Wave Orange is sized for a 36 inch neck and 36 inch chest.
Ruffwear positions the Float Coat for water sports and outdoor adventures, and the shell fabric, 800D ballistic polyester with a DWR and PU coating over 210D nylon lining, points to a design meant for repeated wet use rather than occasional wear. The listing does not state a specific buoyancy rating, so flotation capacity for individual dog weights is not confirmed here.
- 36 in neck, 36 in chest sizing
- Wave Orange color, Large size
- 800D ballistic polyester shell
- Lift handle and reflective trim
Who it's for
Owners taking a large-breed dog on boats, lakes, or open water who want a lift handle to pull the dog out and reflective trim for visibility. Not intended as a car restraint or seat, which the category label incorrectly suggests.
Pros and cons
- Lift handle for pulling dog from water
- Reflective trim for visibility
- Adjustable buckle fit
- Water resistant DWR coated shell
- Hand wash only
- No stated buoyancy rating in the listing
Performance notes
Buoyancy comes from EVA and PE layered foam panels built into the vest, while buckle closures and an adjustable fit are what keep the coat, and the flotation, in place during active swimming rather than sliding off. The lift handle on top lets a person pull the dog directly from the water.
