Overview
Sergeant's Guardian is a flea and tick shampoo for dogs in a Clean Cotton scent, 18 fl oz, with permethrin and piperonyl butoxide as the active ingredients. It's formulated for all life stages according to the listing.
Unlike a cosmetic shampoo, this one is built around an insecticide pairing, permethrin plus the synergist piperonyl butoxide, the standard active combination in over-the-counter flea and tick shampoos. Permethrin products are commonly labeled unsafe for cats, so households with cats should check the label before use.
- 18 fluid ounce bottle
- Active ingredients permethrin and piperonyl butoxide
- Clean Cotton scent
- For all life stages
Who it's for
Dog owners dealing with an active flea or tick problem who want a treatment shampoo rather than a cosmetic one. Not a fit for households that also bathe cats with the same product, given permethrin's known cat toxicity.
Pros and cons
- Contains permethrin for flea and tick control
- Clean Cotton scent
- Suitable for all life stages per listing
- Permethrin is commonly unsafe for cats
- Not a general everyday shampoo
Performance notes
Permethrin works as a contact insecticide against fleas and ticks, and piperonyl butoxide is added to boost its effectiveness by slowing the pest's ability to break the chemical down. As with any treatment shampoo, contact time during the wash matters more than scent or lather for the flea and tick claim.
