Overview
Not a Wi-Fi switch that talks to a phone directly, the Zooz on/off switch joins a Z-Wave hub and controls lights from it. It wires into three-way circuits with a regular switch at the other end, as long as a neutral is present.
Shallow depth and no heat sink tabs make it easier to fit into crowded multi-gang boxes. Every smart feature depends on a Z-Wave hub, and smart speakers alone cannot control it.
Who it's for
Hubitat, Home Assistant or SmartThings users wiring lights, including stair and hall three-way circuits. Homes without a neutral in the box, or that need fan or motor control, cannot use it.
Pros and cons
- Three-way with a regular switch
- Fits shallow, crowded boxes
- Restores state after power failure
- Scene control with multi-taps
- Neutral wire required
- Hub required for any smart control
- Not for fans, motors or appliances
Performance notes
Response and range come from the newer Z-Wave chip, though walls cut into the line of sight figure. Three-way control works only when both boxes are rewired exactly to the manual diagram, and advanced settings appear only on hubs that support them.

Frequently asked questions
What comes in the box with the Zooz ZEN71?
The listing does not spell out the box contents. The switch comes with a white paddle; light almond, brown and black paddles are sold separately, and no hub is included.
Do I need a second smart switch for a 3-way with the Zooz ZEN71?
No. It works with a regular 3-way switch as long as neutral is present, wired as shown in the manual.
Can I control the Zooz ZEN71 with Alexa directly?
No. Smart speakers are not Z-Wave controllers, so voice control needs a compatible Z-Wave hub.
Can the Zooz ZEN71 run a ceiling fan?
No. Zooz says not to connect it to ceiling fans, motors, tube lights or appliances.
