Overview
Beyerdynamic builds the DT 900 PRO X as an open-back studio headphone with dynamic drivers, a spring steel headband and velour ear cups. A removable cable, an adapter and a protective case come in the box.
The reason to consider it is the combination of a detachable cable and comfortable cups in a design made for studio monitoring. The limitation is the open back, which leaks sound in both directions, and the listing gives only one end of the frequency range.
Who it's for
Producers, editors and gamers who work at a desk and want a spacious sound will use the cable and the case. Commuters, and anyone recording with a mic nearby, should choose a closed design.
Pros and cons
- Velour ear cups
- Protective case included
- Open back leaks sound
- Not water resistant
- Frequency response entry is incomplete
Performance notes
The open back lets air and sound pass through the cups, which gives a wider soundstage than a sealed design but also lets noise in and out. The dynamic drivers and the listed impedance suit direct connection to a computer or an interface. Velour cups and the adjustable headband set the comfort.
