Overview
Backing up photos and videos from a phone or computer is the job of ThePhotoStick Omni, a flash drive with several connectors that plugs into an iPhone, Android phone or computer. Its backup feature copies photos and videos automatically, and it also works for general file storage and transfer.
One stick that plugs into several kinds of devices and backs up photos and videos automatically saves sorting files by hand. Write speed trails read speed, so large video backups take longer to save than to read back, and the Android connector is not spelled out.
Who it's for
Suited to parents or grandparents who want photos copied off a phone onto something they can hold. People who need confirmed connector types or a long warranty should look for a drive with a fuller spec sheet.
Pros and cons
- Automatic photo and video backup
- Lightning connector for iPhone
- USB Type A for computers
- Works across iOS, Android, macOS and PC
- Android connector type not listed
- Write speed slower than read
- Only a return policy, no warranty term
Performance notes
Backup time depends on the write speed, which is the slower of the drive's two ratings, and on the port the phone or computer uses. A faster USB port on a computer helps large transfers, while phone transfers follow the phone's own port.
