Overview
A 2 gallon motion sensor trash can from Elpheco measuring 10 by 5.3 by 11.42 inches, built from ABS plastic with an IPX5 water-resistant finish. The lid opens hands-free via an infrared sensor and closes automatically after 5 seconds of no motion, running on 2 AA batteries that are not included.
At 2 gallons this is sized for a bathroom, bedroom or office rather than a kitchen's daily volume of trash, so anyone expecting a kitchen-size bin should check the capacity first regardless of what the category listing suggests. The motion sensor is built to reduce unnecessary lid openings to save battery life, closing after 5 seconds without detected movement. A removable liner ring holds a trash bag in place, and Elpheco sells a matching bag sized to fit.
- 2 gallon capacity, 10 by 5.3 by 11.42 inches
- Infrared motion sensor lid, auto-closes in 5 seconds
- IPX5 water-resistant ABS
- Runs on 2 AA batteries, not included
Who it's for
Anyone wanting a hands-free, water-resistant small trash can for a bathroom, bedroom or office. Not sized for a kitchen's typical daily trash volume despite how the category is labeled.
Pros and cons
- Hands-free infrared motion sensor lid
- IPX5 water-resistant ABS construction
- Removable liner ring keeps bags in place
- Auto-closes after 5 seconds to save battery
- 2 gallon capacity is small for kitchen-scale trash
- Requires 2 AA batteries, not included
Performance notes
An infrared motion sensor opens the lid when a hand passes above it and keeps it open only while motion continues, closing automatically after 5 seconds of no detected movement to conserve the 2 AA batteries that power it. The IPX5 rating means it resists water and humidity without staining, and the removable liner ring holds a trash bag taut so it will not slip loose. Elpheco sells matching bags cut to the can's shape, though standard bags will also fit the liner ring.
