Overview
HERCULES MGX03 is a fly tying thread set: nylon thread in 12 colors, 100 yards per spool, sold as a 12 piece set spanning two line weights, 6 and 14.
Fly tiers typically keep several thread weights on hand, using finer thread for small dry flies and heavier thread for bulkier streamers or bass bugs. This set covers two weights across a 12 color spread rather than a single spool.
- 12 piece, 12 color set
- Nylon material
- 100 yards per spool
- Line weights 6 and 14
Who it's for
Fly tiers who want a starter or restocking set of colored nylon tying thread across a couple of weights, rather than buying single spools one at a time.
Pros and cons
- 12 colors in one set
- Two thread weights, 6 and 14, included
- 100 yards per spool
- Nylon rather than gel spun thread, which some tiers prefer for durability
Performance notes
Nylon tying thread is chosen for its strength-to-diameter ratio and the way it lies flat when wrapped, which matters for building even fly bodies. Two line weights in the set let a tier switch between finer patterns and bulkier ties without a separate order.
