Owlet Cam 2 Smart Baby Monitor

Overview

Streaming a secure video and audio feed of the nursery to your phone, this Owlet camera mounts on the wall with an adhesive kit or stands on a swivel magnetic base. Sound, motion and cry detection capture clips so you can review what happened before baby fussed.

Clips captured before a cry help you learn baby's cues, and background audio lets you use other apps while still listening. Power comes from a cord, so placement depends on an outlet nearby, and longer clip history needs an upgrade.

Who it's for

Nurseries with a WiFi signal and an outlet near the crib suit this camera, and parents who multitask on their phone gain from background listening. Buyers who need a battery camera or a separate monitor unit will need a different setup.

Pros and cons

Performance notes

Picture detail at night depends on the night vision mode, and the zoom, which the specs list as digital, enlarges part of the frame rather than moving a lens. Alerts rely on the camera detecting sound and motion, and stream quality follows the strength of the home WiFi at the crib.
