Overview
ION Audio designed the Block Rocker as a floor-standing party speaker with an eight inch woofer, a tweeter and full-range drivers aimed forward and to both sides. It streams over Bluetooth and links to another unit for stereo.
The reason to buy is a long battery run, a microphone and wide sound in one body for outdoor use. The limit is the weight and the water protection, which is described only in general terms with no rating.
Who it's for
Hosts of outdoor gatherings, fitness instructors and karaoke fans who move a speaker by its handle will use it fully. Apartment listeners and hikers carrying gear should consider something smaller.
Pros and cons
- Long battery run time
- Karaoke microphone included
- Companion app for sound and lights
- Stereo linking with a second unit
- Heavy to carry
- Mono audio output
- Water protection has no rating
Performance notes
The eight inch woofer handles the low end while smaller drivers cover mids and highs and spread sound to the sides. Battery run time falls as volume rises, so the stated figure depends on playback level. Linking two units changes the output from mono to a wider stereo field.
