Overview
HP built this portable printer to output long, narrow prints from a phone, including photobooth strips and labels. Zink paper carries its own color layers, so the printer needs no ink, and the prints peel and stick.
The reason to buy is the unusual long-strip format for panoramas, labels and custom designs. The limit is the narrow single size and the dependence on special paper and the phone app.
Who it's for
Picture a desk with a journal, a sticker habit and a camera roll full of designs. A buyer who wants normal four by six photos or plain paper output should look at a different kind of printer.
Pros and cons
- Long strip format for panoramas
- No ink cartridges needed
- Works with phones and tablets
- Starter roll included
- One narrow format only
- Needs special Zink paper
- App required for printing
- Print size details conflict in the specs
Performance notes
The printer heats Zink paper to develop color that is already embedded in the sheet, so there is no ink to run out. Print quality is bounded by the stated resolution and the phone image. Long strips take longer than small prints, and the cleaning sheet helps keep the feed path tidy.
