Overview

Govee built this TV backlight kit to color the wall behind a television so it follows the picture. A small camera reads the screen, a control box turns that into color signals, and the LED strip on the back of the set lights up to match.

Reading the screen with a camera means the lights follow what is actually shown on the panel. Strip length is matched to a narrow band of TV sizes, so smaller or larger sets are not covered.

Who it's for

Movie and gaming setups around a mid-size to large television get ambient color that tracks the screen, run from the Govee app or by voice. Owners of small monitors or very large screens should find a strip sized to them.

Performance notes

Sync quality depends on the camera's view of the screen: fish-eye correction straightens the wide-angle image so edge colors map to the right part of the strip. Black bar elimination stops letterboxed films from darkening the top and bottom zones, and blank screen detection lets the lights respond when the picture goes dark. Room light falling on the screen can shift what the camera reads.
