Overview
PetSafe's ScoopFree crystal litter uses silica gel pellets rather than clay, sold in an 8 lb bag with a fresh scent additive. It's built as a refill for ScoopFree self-cleaning litter boxes but works in any standard box too.
Crystal litter absorbs urine and dries out solid waste instead of clumping, which changes the maintenance routine compared to clay. The fresh scent is a fragrance layer added to the silica, not a substitute for removing solid waste regularly.
- 8 lb bag of silica gel crystal litter
- Fresh scent formulation
- Compatible with ScoopFree self-cleaning boxes
- Ranked 35 in Amazon Cat Litter
Who it's for
Fits owners already running a PetSafe ScoopFree box, or anyone wanting a lower-dust litter that doesn't need full-box changes as often as clay. Not a fit for owners who prefer clumping litter scooped and discarded daily, or households sensitive to added fragrance.
Pros and cons
- Low dust compared to clay litters
- Long stretches between full changes
- Works in ScoopFree boxes and standard litter boxes
- Scented formula won't suit fragrance-sensitive cats
- Pellet texture feels different from clumping clay
- 8 lb bag is a modest supply for multi-cat homes
Performance notes
Silica crystals absorb liquid and let solid waste dry out, so odor control comes from moisture absorption plus the scent layer rather than daily removal alone. Bags typically last several weeks per cat with periodic solid removal and crystal stirring.

Is this a clumping litter?
No, it's a silica crystal litter that absorbs moisture and dries out solid waste rather than forming clumps.
How much litter does the bag include?
The bag is listed at 8 lbs (7.96 lbs item weight), sized as a single refill rather than a bulk multi-pack.
