Overview
HP built this DesignJet to print technical drawings, renders, posters and maps on roll media or sheets. A thermal inkjet head lays down four colors, and a stand, spindle and media bin are part of the package.
The reason to buy is wide roll printing with an extended care pack already included. The limit is that it is print only and takes up a lot of floor space.
Who it's for
Firms and studios that print technical line drawings and maps will find the roll handling useful. Home users, small offices short on space or anyone needing a scanner should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Roll printing for large drawings
- Printhead and starter ink included
- Stand and media bin included
- Extended care pack included
- Print only, no scan or copy
- Uses HP 738 ink only
Performance notes
Thermal inkjet printing fires tiny drops of ink, and the high resolution suits fine technical lines and crisp text. Roll media suits long prints, while sheets suit smaller posters. The stated first page time and power draw are reference figures, so real speed varies with file size.
