Overview
Setting up VLANs, VPN tunnels or custom firewall rules, power users get OpenWRT compatibility in this compact Cudy router. Three beamforming antennas and wide channels serve Wi-Fi devices, while five gigabit ports wire a TV, console and NAS.
OpenWRT freedom and built-in VPN server and client give advanced control without extra subscriptions. Coverage is modest for multi floor homes.
Who it's for
Apartment dwellers, home lab users and privacy minded families get flexible firmware and wired ports. Large homes should consider mesh.
Pros and cons
- VPN server and client built in
- Five gigabit ports
- Compact vertical design
- Coverage limited to smaller homes
- No multi gig port
- Advanced features take setup
Performance notes
Wide channels double the data path for Wi-Fi devices close to the router, while beamforming aims signal toward them. Through several walls, speed drops as the wide channel loses strength.
