Overview
Vortex Optics' Viper HD is a 5-25x50 first focal plane rifle scope built on a 30mm tube, with an illuminated VMR-4 reticle designed for holdover and ranging at distance.
Because the reticle sits in the first focal plane, its markings stay proportional to the target at any magnification, which matters for shooters who dial or hold for distance across the full zoom range rather than at one fixed power. The scope is backed by Vortex's transferable VIP warranty, which covers repair or replacement for damage or defects.
- 5-25x50, first focal plane, 30mm tube
- Illuminated VMR-4 reticle for ranging and holdover
- RevStop Zero locking elevation turret
- Vortex VIP lifetime, transferable warranty
Who it's for
Suits long-range shooters who want first focal plane holdover reference at any zoom level, backed by a lifetime warranty. Less suited to shooters who only need a basic duplex reticle for closer-range hunting.
Pros and cons
- First focal plane reticle usable at any zoom
- 30mm tube with HD, Armortek coated glass
- Argon purged for fogproof, waterproof use
- Backed by Vortex's transferable lifetime warranty
- Windage capped rather than exposed for tool-free adjustment
Performance notes
The 30mm tube and HD glass are built for edge-to-edge sharpness and light transmission, with Armortek coating on exterior lenses for scratch resistance. Argon purging is meant to keep the scope fogproof and waterproof, while the RevStop Zero System on the exposed elevation turret is designed to return reliably to a set zero. The VMR-4 reticle supports ranging, holdover and windage correction at any point in the 5x zoom range since it sits in the first focal plane.
