Overview
FishTrip packs fifty size 8 octopus style baitholder hooks per bag, made of black finished carbon steel for live or cut bait presentations.
Baitholder hooks add small barbs on the shank to keep soft bait or cut bait from sliding off during a cast or retrieve, which is the main reason to pick this style over a plain octopus hook. Carbon steel keeps cost down but needs rinsing after saltwater use to avoid rust.
- Carbon steel construction
- 50 hooks per pack
- Size 8 octopus baitholder style
- Black finish
Who it's for
Anglers who fish bait rather than lures and want a bulk pack of a common hook size on hand. Less relevant to anyone fishing artificial lures exclusively.
Pros and cons
- 50 hooks per pack for restocking through a season
- Baitholder barbs keep bait from sliding off the shank
- Size 8 suits a range of panfish and bait presentations
- Carbon steel needs drying to avoid rust
- Single size only in this listing
Performance notes
The shank barbs on a baitholder hook grip soft or cut bait so it stays put through casting and current, the main functional difference from a plain hook. Carbon steel is standard for hooks in this price range but rusts faster than stainless if left wet, so rinsing and drying after use matters.
