Overview
Veterinary Formula's De-Skunk shampoo is a 32-ounce dog wash built around powerful degreasers to strip skunk odor from a dog's coat, and the brand also markets it for spraying on furniture, carpet, and clothing that picked up the smell.
The formula is dairy-free and positioned as gentle on pet skin while still strong enough to cut through the oily compounds skunk spray leaves behind. Manufactured by Synergy Labs, it ranks in the 11,000s overall in Pet Supplies but much higher within dog shampoos specifically, a category-specific pick rather than a broad top seller. Monthly purchase volume sits at a steady moderate level.
- 32 fluid ounce bottle
- Professional-strength degreaser formula
- Dairy-free formulation
- Also usable on furniture, carpet, and clothing
Who it's for
Owners dealing with an actual skunk encounter, or households that want a degreasing shampoo on hand for the possibility. Not intended as an everyday coat shampoo for dogs without an odor problem.
Pros and cons
- Cuts skunk odor rather than masking it
- Doubles as a spray-on cleaner for fabric and carpet
- Not positioned as a routine everyday shampoo
- No ingredient breakdown beyond degreasers in the listing
Performance notes
The shampoo relies on degreasing surfactants to break down the oily thiol compounds in skunk spray rather than just masking the smell with fragrance. The same bottle is labeled for use on furniture, carpet, and clothing, so the degreasing action is the shared mechanism across all those surfaces.
