ASIN: B0009PZW7CCategory: Bear Resistant Food Containers
Overview
The Counter Assault Bear Keg is a 716 cubic inch, IGBC and SIBBG approved bear-resistant food storage container built for backcountry trips, and it is required gear in a number of national parks that mandate certified canisters.
This is a straightforward, no-frills canister rather than a lifestyle product: the seller supplies bullet points instead of a description, and the emphasis throughout is on official approval rather than comfort features. That approval status is the real selling point, since several national parks will not admit hikers without a certified container.
- 716 cubic inch capacity
- IGBC and SIBBG approved
- Mandatory-storage compliant in many national parks
Who it's for
Hikers and backpackers heading into parks that require an IGBC or SIBBG certified bear canister. It is less relevant for casual campers in areas without a mandatory-storage rule.
Pros and cons
- IGBC and SIBBG approved for mandatory-storage areas
- 716 cubic inches of storage
- Described as durable and easy to carry
- No seller description beyond marketing bullets
Performance notes
Approval from the IGBC and SIBBG means the container has passed standardized resistance testing against bear tampering, which is why park services accept it as compliant gear rather than just any hard case.
