Overview
BOSS designed the DR-670 as a compact rhythm-creation tool built from the sounds of its flagship DR-770. Velocity-sensitive pads and a pad layout shaped like a bass guitar neck make rhythm and bass programming quick. A large LCD shows tempo at all times.
The reason to buy is a deep pattern library with a bass part and expressive pads, in a small machine that can run on batteries. The limit is that the listing omits the power adapter and gives no reliable size or weight.
Who it's for
People sketching rhythm and bass parts at home or on stage can trigger patterns on the fly with Direct Pattern Play. Buyers who want to import their own samples or need documentation on size should check first.
Pros and cons
- Large preset and user pattern library
- Bass part for bass lines
- Direct Pattern Play function
- Battery or AC operation
- AC adapter not included
- Dimensions listed incorrectly
- Footswitch sold separately
- Warranty not listed
Performance notes
The pads respond to how hard they are hit, which lets patterns be programmed with expression. Direct Pattern Play lets the user assign internal patterns to pads and trigger them on the fly. A foot control jack allows hands-free start, stop and fills with an optional footswitch.
