Overview
Not a full HD webcam, the Microsoft LifeCam is an HD unit that plugs in by USB and adjusts color and exposure automatically. Auto focus holds faces sharp at normal desk distance.
Simplicity is the point of this camera, with automatic settings that need no adjusting. Resolution and field of view are limited, so it suits one person at a desk.
Who it's for
Remote workers and students who join calls alone get clear enough video with no setup. Streamers and group calls need wider and sharper cameras.
Pros and cons
- Automatic color and exposure
- Plugs in by USB
- HD only, not full HD
- Narrow field of view for groups
Performance notes
Image quality depends on light: the CMOS sensor and TrueColor processing balance exposure automatically, but low light adds noise. Auto focus helps when you move closer to or farther from the camera.
