Overview
The SC2500FG is a size 2500 spinning reel from Shimano with a metal body weighing 0.58 pounds, built around a Propulsion Spool Lip meant to reduce friction on the cast.
A 2500 size spinning reel sits in the light to medium range, matched more to trout, panfish, and light inshore work than heavy surf or offshore casting. The Propulsion Spool Lip is Shimano's design for smoother line release off the spool during a cast, which affects distance more than raw power.
- Size 2500 spinning reel
- Metal body construction
- Propulsion Spool Lip design
- 0.58 pound reel weight
Who it's for
Light spinning setups for freshwater or light inshore work are where this reel belongs, for anglers who want a metal-bodied option. It is not sized for heavy saltwater or big game spinning applications.
Pros and cons
- Metal body adds durability under regular use
- Propulsion Spool Lip aids smoother, longer casts
- 2500 size fits a broad range of light tackle
- Not built for heavy saltwater or big game use
Performance notes
The Propulsion Spool Lip design smooths the edge line rolls over during a cast, which is what actually adds casting distance rather than reel weight or gear ratio alone. A metal body adds durability and consistent gear alignment over repeated use compared to composite frames.
