Overview
Sony equips this Blu-ray player with HDMI plus component and composite video, so it connects to newer and older TVs alike. Quick Start shortens load times, and a phone app can stand in for the remote.
Connection range is the reason to choose it, covering optical and coaxial audio for older receivers. Wireless features depend on an adapter that is not built in.
Who it's for
Households with mixed old and new AV gear get every common connection in one player. Those wanting wireless streaming out of the box should look at a model with built-in Wi-Fi.
Pros and cons
- Wide range of outputs
- Fast start and disc loading
- Phone app remote
- Plays FLAC and MP3 from USB
- Wi-Fi needs an adapter
- Older streaming platform
Performance notes
Load time is cut by the Quick Start mode, which holds the player partly ready in standby. Picture from DVDs depends on the upscaler, while audio passes to a receiver over HDMI or digital outputs.
