Overview
A 50-liter (13-gallon) semi-round kitchen step trash can from simplehuman with a flat back for wall placement, a pet-proof slide lock lid and a steel pedal rated for 150,000 steps.
The flat back and rounded front are a fit choice: the can sits flush against a wall while still giving full access to the 50-liter interior from the front. A slide lock keeps the lid shut against pets, and simplehuman's Lid Shox mechanism controls the closing motion so the lid settles quietly rather than dropping. The body is made from 75% recycled plastic, and the can is sized for simplehuman's own Code P custom-fit liners rather than a generic trash bag.
- 50 L / 13 gal semi-round capacity
- Pet-proof slide lock on the lid
- Steel pedal rated for 150,000 steps
- 75% recycled plastic body
Who it's for
Fits a kitchen where the can needs to sit against a wall and stay closed against a cat or dog, and where quiet operation and liner fit matter more than the lowest price. Anyone who wants to use ordinary generic trash bags without buying a matched liner size may find the custom-fit liner a recurring cost to plan for.
Pros and cons
- Slide lock keeps the lid closed against pets
- Flat back fits flush against a wall
- Steel pedal rated for 150,000 steps
- Lid Shox controls a slow, quiet close
- Sized for simplehuman's own Code P liners rather than generic bags
- Semi-round shape is less common than a straight rectangular can
Performance notes
The slide lock is a physical latch over the lid rather than a passive weight, which is what actually stops a pet from nosing the lid open, unlike a step pedal alone. The pedal's 150,000-step rating and the flat-back semi-round shape are both durability and fit choices meant for daily kitchen traffic against a wall, and the Code P liners are sized specifically to that shape so a generic bag is more likely to bunch or slip than one cut for a semi-round can.
