Overview
A drum circle or a street corner suits this Toca djembe, which is tuned with hardware rather than rope. The shell is a tough synthetic, topped with a hand selected goatskin head, and a bag is included for shoulder carry.
Hardware tuning takes the rope work out of keeping the head at pitch, and the synthetic shell is described as tough. The limits are weight, which limits portability, and a warranty listed as not available.
Who it's for
A performer who carries a drum between gigs gets a bag, a tough shell and easy hardware adjustment. Players who want traditional rope tension, natural wood or a lighter drum should choose differently.
Pros and cons
- Mechanical tuning hardware
- Tough synthetic shell
- Warranty not available
- Weight limits portability
- Not a wooden shell
- Tuning hardware details unstated
Performance notes
Mechanical tuning lets a player change head tension with hardware instead of re-roping, so pitch is easier to set. The goatskin head gives the traditional tone, while the synthetic shell resists knocks. The bag allows shoulder carry.
