Overview
Remo's Apex Djembe has a lightweight, impact-resistant black ABS plastic shell, a steel-plated radius counter hoop and a graphic drumhead, voiced for a focused, dry sound.
The reason to buy is the tough shell and the tuning hardware built for easy adjustment. The limit is that it is plastic rather than carved wood, and the warranty field is empty.
Who it's for
A casual hand drummer or drum-circle regular who values a durable shell and quick tuning. Players who want a traditional wood djembe should look at a carved model.
Pros and cons
- Impact-resistant ABS shell
- Easy tuning brackets
- Steel-plated counter hoop
- Wide volume range from the head
- Plastic, not wood
- Warranty not listed
- Head graphic name inconsistent with color
Performance notes
The drumhead is described as capable of a wide range of volume for all drumming activities. The focused, dry sound comes from the shell design, and the counter hoop with its recessed hooks lets the head be tuned without protruding hardware.
