Overview
Dragging logs, game or debris across rough ground is what this gas capstan winch is built for, powered by a small Honda engine. Rope wraps around the capstan drum, so pulls can run as long as the rope.
A capstan design never fills up, so long hauls run without stopping to respool. The rope is not listed as included, so budget for rope and rigging.
Who it's for
Logging, land clearing and remote game recovery suit it. Anyone wanting a winch bolted to a truck should choose a vehicle-mounted model.
Pros and cons
- No battery or vehicle needed
- Unlimited rope length
- Steady pulling speed
- Multiplies with block and tackle
- Rope not listed as included
- Engine noise and fuel upkeep
- Needs anchoring gear
Performance notes
The capstan grips rope by friction as the operator tails it, which holds speed steady regardless of how much rope has passed. Adding block and tackle trades speed for much greater force.
