Overview
Portable Winch built this capstan winch to run on lithium-ion tool batteries, so it pulls rope by hand-tended capstan with no fumes or engine maintenance. A brushless motor and three speeds handle logging, hauling game and towing.
Quiet, emission-free pulling with no maintenance suits indoor work and fire-sensitive forests. Battery run time varies with load, and the listing does not confirm whether batteries or a charger come in the box.
Who it's for
Woodlot work, game retrieval and debris clearing suit a winch you can carry and anchor anywhere. Off-roaders wanting a bumper-mounted drum winch need a different design.
Pros and cons
- No fumes or engine upkeep
- Carry and anchor anywhere
- Three speed settings
- Battery inclusion not stated
- Run time varies with load
- Rope not listed in the box
- Weight figures differ in the listing
Performance notes
A capstan winch wraps rope around a spinning drum and grips it through friction while the operator tails the free end, so rope length is unlimited. Pulling force and speed trade off, so the slow setting handles the heaviest loads. Battery draw climbs with load, which is why autonomy varies.
