Overview
Filling the top chamber with tap water and letting gravity pull it through the Black Berkey elements is the entire routine. Filtered water collects in the lower chamber, and the upper one nests inside it for storage.
Working with no electricity or water pressure makes it useful in homes, RVs and outages alike. Two elements filter slowly, so busy kitchens may want to add more, and the listing says it cannot ship to California or Iowa.
Who it's for
Couples and small families who want a countertop filter that also works off grid. Larger households drawing a lot of water each day will find the flow slow without extra elements.
Pros and cons
- No power or plumbing needed
- Stainless steel chambers
- Upper chamber nests for storage
- Accepts extra elements for faster flow
- Slow flow with two elements
- Elements need priming first
- Not shipped to two states
- Takes counter height space
Performance notes
Flow depends on how many elements are installed and on water height in the upper chamber; adding elements raises output. Priming the elements before use opens the media so water passes evenly.
