Overview
MacBook owners get a slim metal portable drive that backs up with one click or on a schedule, and the Seagate Mobile Backup app sends phone photos to it over home Wi-Fi. It also works with Windows.
Scheduled backups and mobile backup cover both the laptop and the phone. The metal shell matches a MacBook on the desk. Time Machine use may require reformatting, and capacity suits documents and photos more than large video.
Who it's for
Students and home users with a MacBook and a phone full of photos get a simple backup routine. Video editors need far more space.
Pros and cons
- Slim metal enclosure
- Scheduled automatic backups
- Phone backup over home Wi-Fi
- Works with Mac and Windows
- Time Machine may need reformatting
- Rotational speed not listed
Performance notes
Backup speed is set by the spinning disk, steady for large files and slower for many small ones. Phone backups travel over the home Wi-Fi network through the Mobile Backup app. Cloud services such as Dropbox and Google Drive handle backups away from home.
