Overview
A spinning laptop class hard disk inside a matte, smudge resistant shell gives this Toshiba drive its storage, powered entirely by the USB cable. It is formatted for Windows and works as soon as it is plugged in.
Plug and play simplicity with no software or adapter suits people who just want to drag files over. Speed is that of a hard disk, and there is no encryption or backup tool.
Who it's for
Students and home users moving files between PCs. Mac owners can use it after reformatting, and people needing security features should look at drives with password protection.
Pros and cons
- Plug and play on Windows
- Smudge resistant finish
- Works on USB 2.0 ports
- Mac requires reformatting
- No backup software
Performance notes
Transfers run at hard disk speed, set by the spinning platter rather than the USB link. Bus power means a one cable setup. Older USB ports work but slow transfers further.
