Overview
A hiking trail or a backyard game is where these red FRS radios work, with a belt clip on each and a keypad lock so settings stay put. Tones for calling and a wide list of channels help kids avoid crosstalk.
The keypad lock and tones make them simple for kids, and the warranty text is generous for a toy radio. The box list does not name batteries, so plan to buy them.
Who it's for
Camping, hiking and yard games suit a pair of belt-clip radios. Rain, long-range work or a phone replacement are not what these do.
Pros and cons
- Keypad lock prevents setting changes
- Belt clip on each radio
- Many channels and call tones
- Long warranty on the radio body
- Not water resistant
- Batteries not named in the box
- Range is a maximum
- Warranty terms are complicated
Performance notes
Range depends on open sightlines, since terrain and walls cut an FRS signal. CTCSS codes filter out other users on a channel, which helps keep kids on their own line.
