Overview
Blue Buffalo's Wilderness line puts salmon as the first ingredient in this grain-free dry food for adult cats, formulated with the brand's LifeSource Bits antioxidant blend and sold in a 5 lb bag.
Grain-free formulas like this one built their following on the idea that cats do better on a diet closer to what their wild ancestors ate, though not every vet agrees grain-free is necessary for a healthy cat. The LifeSource Bits are a cold-formed nutrient blend Blue Buffalo adds separately from the kibble, aimed at supporting immune health rather than being baked into every piece.
- 5 lb bag
- Grain-free, salmon-first recipe
- LifeSource Bits antioxidant blend
- Formulated for adult cats
Who it's for
Fits owners already committed to a grain-free diet for their adult cat, or those managing a food sensitivity where excluding corn, wheat and soy matters. Less relevant for owners with no dietary restriction concerns, since grain-inclusive foods cost less per pound without a proven downside for most cats.
Pros and cons
- Salmon listed as the first ingredient
- Grain-free formula excludes corn, wheat and soy
- LifeSource Bits antioxidant blend included separate from kibble
- Grain-free costs more per pound than standard formulas
- No independent feeding trial data included in this listing
Performance notes
Real salmon listed as the first ingredient signals it outweighs any other single ingredient before cooking removes moisture, which is standard for how pet food labels are read. The LifeSource Bits are marketed for immune and skin support, muscle maintenance and digestive health, though those benefits come from the overall diet rather than the bits alone.
