Overview
Not a licensed GMRS radio, this Cobra set is a pair of compact FRS walkie talkies anyone can use. They add NOAA weather channels, a roger beep and a battery saver that kicks in after a short pause.
Licence-free operation and small size make them easy for families and casual groups. The headline range assumes open line of sight, which trees and buildings cut down sharply.
Who it's for
Camping, theme parks, ski trips and small worksites suit this pair. Off-road convoys needing repeaters should look at GMRS.
Pros and cons
- No licence needed
- Compact and light
- NOAA weather channels
- Rechargeable batteries included
- Range claim assumes open terrain
- No repeater support
Performance notes
Range depends on terrain and obstacles; open water or flat ground reaches furthest. The battery saver cuts drain between talks. Roger beep signals when the other person has finished.
