A grain free, high protein formula built to cover every life stage on one bag, priced and formulated as a premium option rather than an everyday budget kibble.

Overview

Grain free dry cat food from Orijen's Original Recipe, a 4 lb bag formulated for all life stages with high protein content and ingredients like apple, egg, kelp, peas and pumpkin.

Champion Petfoods positions Orijen as a biologically appropriate diet, leaning on animal protein rather than grain fillers, which is a main reason it commands a premium price versus mainstream dry cat food. Being labeled for all life stages means it is formulated to meet AAFCO's most demanding nutrient profile, covering kittens through senior cats on one bag.

4 lb bag, Original Cat Recipe
Grain free, gluten free, non-GMO
Formulated for all life stages
No added antibiotics, no artificial flavors

Who it's for

Fits owners feeding a single cat or a household spanning kitten to senior ages who want one grain free formula for all of them. Owners on a tight food budget or feeding a cat without a grain sensitivity may not need the grain free premium.

Pros and cons

Pros

Grain free and potato free formula
Single recipe covers all life stages
High protein, no added sugar

Cons

4 lb bag is a small size for multi cat households

Performance notes

The kibble is disc shaped at roughly 9.5x3.5mm, small enough for most cats to chew without softening, and the grain free, potato free formulation removes common starches in favor of protein rich ingredients. High protein and no added sugar claims align with a diet built around meat inclusion rather than plant based bulk.
