Overview
Bedroom and living room tanks where pump hum matters suit the Whisper IQ, which places a soft barrier between motor and filter to dampen noise. Water flows through a Bio-Bag cartridge and a bio-scrubber, then returns over a spillway that oxygenates the surface.
Low noise and no priming make it a simple, quiet filter to live with in a room where people sleep or work. The monthly cartridge change is an ongoing chore and a recurring purchase.
Who it's for
Starter tanks, desk aquariums and bedroom setups benefit from the sound shield. Owners of larger or heavily stocked tanks need a filter with more capacity.
Pros and cons
- Very quiet sound shield
- Self priming motor
- Bio-scrubber grows helpful bacteria
- Spillway oxygenates water
- Cartridges sold separately
- Monthly cartridge changes
- Included parts listed only as see label
Performance notes
Clarity depends on the Bio-Bag cartridge trapping particles and on the bio-scrubber, where aerobic bacteria break down ammonia and nitrite. The spillway agitates the surface for oxygen, and the submerged motor restarts on its own without priming.
