Cortland Indicator Mono Fly Leader Material

Overview

This Cortland leader section is 13 inches of .012 inch (11.8 pound) monofilament in a tri-color pattern of chartreuse, black and pink, sold as a single piece for building into a leader or rig.

The tri-color banding is the reason a section like this exists: spliced into a leader, the color changes give an angler a visual reference point to watch for a strike or track drift, since each band stands out differently against water and light. At 13 inches it's a short connector section rather than a full tapered leader, so it's meant to be tied between other leader material rather than fished on its own.

Who it's for

Anglers who build their own tapered leaders and want a colored section for spotting strikes or drift. Not for anglers who want a complete, ready to fish leader straight out of the package.

Pros and cons

Performance notes

At .012 inch diameter and an 11.8 pound rating, this sits in mid-weight leader territory. Monofilament of this class stretches for shock absorption, and here the point isn't stealth but visibility, since the color change is meant to register as a visual cue rather than being fished purely for its breaking strength.
