Overview
A car, truck or overland rig is where this Radioddity mobile radio belongs, powered from the cigarette plug. It transmits on GMRS and repeater channels, scans UHF and VHF, and watches four channels at once on a large blue display.
Mobile power and repeater access reach well beyond handheld radios, which suits spread-out convoys. Transmit is limited to GMRS, so UHF and VHF channels are receive only.
Who it's for
Road trips, off-road convoys and camp bases where the radio stays in the vehicle. Hikers leaving the truck behind need a handheld.
Pros and cons
- Switchable high, mid and low power
- Quad channel standby
- Works with other GMRS radios
- UHF and VHF receive only
- Needs vehicle power
- Channel count differs between listing fields
Performance notes
Higher transmit power and a vehicle antenna position push range far past handhelds, though terrain still blocks the signal. Repeater access extends reach further where a repeater is in range, and low power saves heat and battery on short hops.
